Open Gardens Day
The Bi-Annual Open Gardens Day was held for the first time since the pandemic disrupted life. A record number of 20 Gardens were opened by local residents – including the compact, the hidden, the quirky, and the conventional. The gardens were spectacular, the views were spectacular and lots of people came along, in spite of weather that was not quite so spectacular! But the heavy rain was short-lived and did not dampen anybody’s enthusiasm.
There were several opportunities to buy plants, to buy tea & cakes and to listen to music, as well as appreciating the hard work of our local gardeners.
The event raised a magnificent £1,538 which be divided between local charities and village projects. The local charities that the Open Gardens Committee chose are:
The Friends of Ysbyty Alltwen (Tremadog hospital), Blaenau Ffestiniog Food Bank & Pwllheli Food Bank
Village Walk
There will be a Nature and History Walk around the village on Monday 21st August, starting at 6pm by the bus shelter in the Car Park. It will last about two hours and there will be options to do a shortened version.
It will be led by Richard Walwyn (author of A Little History of Borth-y-Gest) and David Medcalf (long-time volunteer with The Friends).
The History will cover local legends, pre-history and more up to date history, including a visit to the Iron Age Settlement, whilst the Nature part will take us through the two Local Nature Reserves, discussing some of the special features of the area in a Show and Tell sort of way.
All welcome! Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sensible shoes.
