Visit Friends of Borth-Y-Gest

Welcome to FOBYG

Borth-y-Gest is a lovely village in north Wales, situated on the Glaslyn estuary between Porthmadog and the nearby Black Rock Sands. The village has charming houses, excellent cafés, beautiful sandy coves and two Local Nature Reserves, all within easy reach of the village car park. The Wales Coast Path passes through the village and there is a registered Iron Age Settlement site in the local woods.

The Friends of Borth-y-Gest is a community group whose members comprise residents, former residents, holiday home owners, visitors and anybody else who has an interest in caring for the village. Every two years, the Friends of Borth-y-Gest organise a very popular Open Gardens Day (the next one in June 2025). Current information is displayed on the Friends' Facebook page This is a public page where, subject to moderation, people can post photos, comments and questions related to Borth-y-Gest. There are currently about 2,500 members of the Group so it is quite busy. There are two other Facebook groups related to the village whose membership is private.

There is also a Village Noticeboard in the car park which shows useful information.

Directions / Parking
From Porthmadog follow signs to Black Rock Sands and turn left to Borth-y-Gest after a quarter of a mile

This is an occasion not to be missed.

There should be opportunities to buy plants, to buy tea & cakes and perhaps to listen to music, as well as appreciating the hard work of our local gardeners.

Money raised from the event will go to local charities and good causes.

Note: The Bi-Annual Open Gardens Day was last held at the end of June 2023. A record number of about 18 Gardens were opened by local residents – including the compact, the hidden, the quirky, and the conventional - and it raised over £1,500 for charity and local projects.
